Southwestern Pennsylvania Oil & Gas Industry Partnership

With so much attention recently on this exciting new industry all over Pennsylvania, our workforce area is planning on being prepared. Bringing industry to the table to ensure that Southwest Corner (Washington, Greene and Beaver counties) residents are prepared with proper training is paramount to growing this industry.

Goals and Objectives for this partnership are:
  • Develop and establish the oil and gas idustry workforce agenda in Southwestern PA
  • Define the workforce challenges of the industry in SWPA through a business climate and workforce needs analysis
  • Develop a strategic action plan to begin addressing regional industry workforce needs

Funding for this project was provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry through the Southwest Pennsylvania Oil & Gas Industry Partnership, on behalf of the Southwest Corner Workforce Investment Board and the Westmoreland‐Fayette Workforce Investment Board.
The purpose of this Southwest Pennsylvania Marcellus Shale Workforce Needs Assessment is to provide baseline data to assist workforce and economic development professionals estimate the direct workforce requirements regarding the types and number of jobs and occupations necessary for the development of Marcellus Shale in Beaver, Washington, Greene, Fayette, and Westmoreland counties in the Southwest region of Pennsylvania over the next five years (2010‐2014). 2011 Oil & Gas Industry Youth Expo

Western Area Career & Technology Center, Canonsburg, PA
The Tri-County Oil& Gas Expo Committee, Southwest Corner WIB, Southwest Training Services, Inc., Job Training for Beaver County and Western Area Career & Technology Center sponsored the Tri-County Oil and Gas Youth Career Expo.  Over 800 high school students attended the event along with 40+ exhibitors. The Expo was designed to focus on career opportunities and develop a pipeline of the future workers in the industry.  We wanted to educate our area’s youth about the industry and to have them start to develop possible career plans. Below are photos from the successful event!
