INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is committed to building a workforce system that is responsive and can meet the skill needs of employers, expand opportunity and security for workers, and boost the competitive position of the business community. The administration further recognizes the need to have workforce and economic development practitioners and the educational and training community work together to effectively serve needs of employers and employees. In doing so, Pennsylvania's workforce development agenda is anchored in the creation of effective industry partnerships.

An industry partnership is a multi-employer collaboration that brings together management and employers to improve the competitiveness of a cluster of companies. The companies may produce similar products or services, or they may share similar supply chains, critical human resource needs, infrastructure requirements and business services. These partnerships serve as the foundation to identify the training needs of an industry sector and develop effective and responsive training solutions that will enhance the cluster's competitive position.

There are currently four active industry partnerships in our region:

the Transportation & Logistics Industry Partnership;

the Building & Construction Trades Industry Partnership;

the Mining Industry Partnership; and

the Pennsylvania Business & Homeland Security Industry Partnership (formerly the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement & Security Industry Partnership).

In addition to these industry partnerships, an initiative has been launched to address the needs of the plastics industry.
